The Lebanon Mountain Trail (LMT) is the first long-distance hiking trail in Lebanon. It extends from Andqet in the north of Lebanon to Marjaayoun in the south, a 470-km (293 miles) path that transects more than 75 towns and villages at altitude ranging from 670 meters to 2,011 meters (about 1,840-6,000 feet) above sea level.
The LMT showcases the natural beauty and cultural wealth of Lebanon’s mountains and demonstrates the determination of the people of Lebanon to conserve this unique heritage. The trail brings communities closer together and expands economic opportunities in rural areas through environmentally- and socially-responsible tourism.
For the 8th consecutive year, the Lebanon Mountain Trail Association is organizing its annual April Thru-Walk from April 1 to May 1, 2016 where a team of Thru Walkers will hike the entire 470 km from Andqet in the North to Marjaayoun in the South; another team will start in Marjaayoun in the South and hike to Andqet in the North.
Both teams are joined throughout the trek, by other hikers who participate for varying durations (weekends, weeks, etc.).
This year 2016, LMT will walk for our FOOD HERITAGE.
How can one join the Thru-Walk?
There are three ways to participate in this year’s Thru Walk:
•Complete Thru-walk (30 days)
•Sectional hike (any number of days)
•Weekend Hike (2 days and 2 nights on the LMT)
