Tannourine el Tahta is a charming village nestled in the middle of greenery in Batroun Caza. People escaping the heat and pollution of the coastal towns, find in this mountain resort an ideal spot for relaxation, peace of mind and savory food served at the numerous restaurants and cafe spread alongside Nahr el Joz river.
Tannourine el Tahta is the ideal place in Lebanon for professional and beginner climbers for many reasons; ideal topography, suave climate with moderate weather and mostly a warm reception by the locals.
USAID along with RAD and Tannourine municipality had offered to all rock climbing lovers the ideal place for rock climbing. 180 climbing routes are now installed and all rock climbing lovers are welcomed all year round to enjoy this extreme sport.
The first route to the top of the wall (100m, 6a, 6b, 6a+, May 2013) is named after Georges Massoud, a local hero who climbed barefoot across exposed faces to hunt for quails to feed his family. His descendants still live at the base of the cliff.
